The Two Faces Of Dana White; The Forgotten Face
Dana White's charitible donations once again get overlooked.
In the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, there are few figures more polarizing and often critized than Dana White.
After all, White is most known in MMA circles for his often abrasive, say it as he sees it style, which more often than not includes colorful language and insulting overtures towards fighters, managers, promoters or journalists whom happen to be on his cross-list.
With that said, there’s a second side of Dana White that the public does not get to see, and often chooses to overlook. This side of Dana White is a generous, giving mentality who helps those in need.
Such examples of Dana White’s generous side include lofty donations of money to the families of the late Evan Tanner and Gilbert Aldana.
Then, there’s the story of the daughter of Attack Mode clothing line owner Jeff Hauser’s girlfriend. Hauser notified the world of the girl, Kendra, and her condition; Lobar Holoprosencephaly and Diabetes Insipidus; on a post at the Underground Forum. These ailments, which are comparable to Cerebral Palsy, limit Kendra in daily activities, and require her to receive constant care in daily living activities.
Upon hearing of Kendra’s condition through a mutual friend, Dana White gave Kendra; a devout Georges St. Pierre fan; and her family an all-expenses paid trip from Phoenix to Las Vegas, and front row tickets to UFC 94 to watch St. Pierre do battle with BJ Penn.
And now, there’s his recent act of kindness.
According to a report out of Sentinel.co.uk, White pledged £5,000 (roughly $7,500) to help pay for the treatment of Ruby Owen, who is battling a brain tumor and needs to come to America for life saving surgery. White made this donation, despite having never met the Owen family, and did so on Owen’s donation website, while wishing not to receive publicity for it.
While White’s reputation is often strained, and even the biggest White supporters will shake our head at some of his comments at times, what everyone needs to remember is this. Behind all the curse words, public feuds and at times questionable PR methods; is a decent human being; one who gets nowhere nearly enough credit or recognition for his decency.
Others may choose to ignore these deeds, however on my end, I say Kudos to Dana White.. Not just as a business entrepeneur; but as a human being.
