Toney Signs Multi-Fight Deal with the UFC…WOW!
Will Toney be able to stop a takedown?
After all the posturing, all the stalking and everything else that went along with contract negotiations between James Toney and the UFC, 5 Ounces of Pain is reporting through sources close to the situation that Toney has indeed signed a multi-fight contract with the UFC.
The stalking of UFC President Dana White by James ‘Lights Out’ Toney started at UFC 107. At UFC 108, Toney and White sat down and had a conversation that was taped and posted on YouTube. If you have been watching the This Week in Combat Sports weekly news round up, you would have heard about James Toney taking over Sports Soup on Versus.
I have to say that the report of Toney signing a multi-fight deal after going public with statements saying that the offer made by the UFC was ‘chump change’ was a bit of a surprise, if the report is true. It will be interesting to see what Toney will be able to do against Kickboxers like Pat Berry, Antoni Hardonk and Mirko Cro Cop and Grapplers like Gabriel Gonzaga, Mostapha Al Turk and Todd Duffee. Let alone the elite heavyweights like Antonio Rodrigo Nogueirs, Frank Mir and of course UFC Heavyweight Champ Brock Lesner.
Now we wait for the official press release stating that, in fact, James ‘Lights Out’ Toney has signed with the UFC. When Toney will make his debut in the cage and who will be the first to welcome the multi-division boxing champion in the MMA fraternity.
