Strikeforce St. Louis: Heavy Artillery – Saturday, May 15

We knew the bouts were coming.  We knew what date the bouts were coming.  Strikeforce has finally announced a Heavyweight laden event that will take place in St. Louis on May 15th at the Scottrade Center.  Strikeforce St. Louis: Heavy Artillery will be broadcast on Showtime at 10pm Eastern and Pacific time.  That silly tape delay thing, but what can you do?

Headlining the card will be the long awaited return of Strikeforce Heavyweight Champ Alistair Overeem facing the heavy hitting Brett ‘Da Grim’ Rogers.  These 2 beasts of men were suppose to face off on a couple different occasions, but due to Overeem suffering an hand injury the bouts were not able to take place.  No official word on if the Heavyweight title will be on the line.  I will see what I can find out.

Other heavy hitters on the card are Former UFC Heavyweight Champ Andrei Arlovski.  The last we saw Arlovski, he took a bout against Brett Rogers in June of 2009 on short notice and had a short night, but not the short night he was hoping for.  Arlovski will be looking to bounce back into the top 10 with a win in St. Louis.

Arlovski’s rumored opponent is another former title holder, but he was a title holder in the now defunct Elite XC.  Antonio ‘Big Foot’ Silva.  Silva was on the Nov. 7th Strikeforce/M-1 Global event on CBS and came up short in his bout with Fabricio Werdum.

Both Arlovski and Silva need to get a win to be back in the mix of title consideration.

No other fighters were named for the event, but expect more to be named for the bouts for the May 15th card in the very near future.  So, stay tuned.
