Silva beats Maia, Leaves fans upset

Does Anderson Silva feel any remorse for his performance?

Anderson “The Spider” Silva may have won his Middleweight Championship fight with Demian Maia last night at UFC 112, but he didn’t win any fans over with his antics. Silva, praised by many to be one of the Pound-for-Pound best fighters in the world, landed shots at will in the opening rounds, all the while dancing and taunting the well respected BJJ World Champion. This isn’t the first time Anderson Silva has pulled this off in a fight, but it doesn’t help to taunt your opponent to engage him, when in the later rounds, you start to pull off your best Kalib Starnes impersonation.

If Silva’s plan was to embarrass his opponent, he failed, miserably and instead only embarrassed himself, along with the sport of mixed martial arts. At the post-fight press conference, Anderson Silva “told” reporters, through his translator and manager Ed Soares, that he was disrespected by Maia, not as a person, but as a fighter. If he disrespected Anderson Silva, I haven’t seen it and I’m sure there are others who are wondering what he’s talking about. Silva talks about respect, but he truly has none. The respectful martial artist persona that Anderson Silva puts on for the fans is a costume to hide his true nature. Taunting your opponent, is not respectful. Degrading him in Portuguese is not respectful. He can talk about all the “disrespect” Maia showed him prior to the fight, but I guess disrespecting the fans at UFC 112 and watching it on PPV, is O.K. in his book.

If he wanted to get back at Maia for completely disrespecting him, I think finishing the fight would have or at least could have proven something. Instead, fans were treated to a lackluster main event with the fighter Dana White feels is the greatest Pound For Pound fighter in the world. I wonder if his opinion has changed on that subject?

Dana White felt embarrassed by Silva’s actions and rightfully so. Dana White, at the post-fight conference called Silva’s action a “disgrace” and event went as far as saying this was his lowest moment as UFC President and does anyone honestly disagree with him? This was a huge moment for the UFC, and Anderson ruined it in 25 minutes. Dana White was so embarrassed by Silva’s actions, he handed the UFC Middleweight Championship to Ed Soares and told him “to put it on him”. If the president of the company that you work for is walking out of your fight before it’s finished, you’re playing with fire. Dana White apologized to the fans and said he would make it up to them, than why doesn’t Anderson Silva feel the need to?

It might be some time before Anderson Silva is back in the Octagon again, the only question is will the fans see it on PPV, or will he be heading to the pre-lims.

Me personally i had no problem with Silva’s clown’n in the cage if Maia would had bang it out the the cage like he did in the last few minutes of the fight from the very start maybe Silva would had showed a little more respect that
just my opinion which don’t mean shhhhhhhhhh..

here is the problem…Silva has multiple chances to end the fight and he didn’t. and for all the time that Silva was clowning around, Maia was moving forward trying to engage in the fight. i will defend Silva for the cote fight, i will defend Silva for the Leites fight, i will not defend Silva for this fight. he could have and should have ended that fight. go in, do your business, end the fight and if you have a bit of fun making your opponent look the fool…fine. but end the fight. finish. knock him out, or be so dominant that he can’t come out of the corner for the last round.

GSP took a bit of crap for not finishing Hardy, but at least he tried to finish Hardy. GSP tried to finish Fitch…GSP tried to finish Alves. Silva did not even try to finish Maia

Wow…now I have lost respect for Ed. So let me get this straight…after Silva got tired of mocking Maia after the second round, since he couldn’t find his “reach” to put him away, he decides to continue to mock him more and RUN from him until the end of the fight. Yep, I guess that is how a fighter that is the best pound for pound fighter should handle a fight. And, don’t let me leave out, that he should also try to hide behind the referee. PATHETIC for Silva and Ed. I listened to several videos of Maia talking about Silva and most of his commets were about how effective and great of a fighter Silva is, and how he (Maia) would have to overcome that. If you go back and watch the video where he made the comment about the “spider and arms” (that made Silva run away from Maia in the cage for a couple of rounds), it was almost a spot in the video at the end where Maia was trying to be funny. The entire video had been very serious and supportive to Silva up to the point where they were closing toward the end and Maia made that statement.

Bottom-line…I think he got tired and was afraid to let Maia near him because he was afraid to lose his belt due to Mai taking him down. Not to mention, if you did notice the intitial leg kicks…those were buckle-knee kicks. Those are kicks that cause major damage and anyone knows those kicks. They are ofter used in street fights and self-defense moves. They are not black belt martial art practice kicks for the quality of martial arts “high-level” techniques.

And if you can’t agree with my opinion above, there are several fighters who talk trash, however, in return, they don’t disgrace themself, the sport, their coaching staff, their employer (UFC), lose their fan base and possible MMA fan base, and humiliate their opponents. Take Silva out of the MMA world, and judge him as a random human being you see in all walks of life and see what the opinion of him would be treating everyone like that everytime he felt disrespected…I thought it was a sad moment. Maybe a great fighter, but a disrespectful, arrogant, self-centered individual. I guess it all depends on how you want to be remembered…

  4. I will say this about Mr. Ed Soares, he’s going to try and defend his fighter, that’s his job as his manager, I get that part, but to call out that Silva couldn’t find his “reach” was just plain old BS. Plain and simple. Considering how many times Anderson Silva connected on Maia, I doubt his reach was in question. As you can see by the article, I don’t even come close to agreeing with anything Soares or Silva have said.

Not to mention, I think it’s time to start question Soares when it comes to his honest translations of Silva.

Silva is crazy, no doubt, but I liked the first 2 rounds. If all 5 was like that I will pay to see Silva clowning again :P
