Loiseau out, MacDonald returns at UFC 113 to face Salter
Just days after news broke that former Ultimate Fighting Championship Middleweight title challenger David “The Crow” Loiseau would be making a return to the promotion, replacing Nick Catone as John Salter’s opponent at UFC 113 in Loiseau’s hometown of Montreal; the Quebec Athletic Commission has put a halt to the fight.
The Quebec’s athletic commission, The Régie des Alcools, des Courses et des Jeux, has informed Loiseau that due to his ties to organized crime by virtue of his former ownership stake in the XMMA fight promotion, he was temporarily banned from competing in the province until police investigation subsides, taking him out of consideration for this Saturday’s fight.
Fortunately for Salter, the inconvenience of yet again having his UFC 113 dance card changed on short notice will not be in vain, as another popular former Middleweight contender and Canadian native, Jason MacDonald will be making his return to the promotion and facing the native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama on just five days notice.
MacDonald racked up a 5-3 record in the UFC while fighting for the promotion from 2006-2009. He was released from the promotion in April of 2009 following a loss to Nate Quarry at UFC 97, which ironically enough was also in Montreal. Since then, he has gone 4-1, with his most recent victory coming April 23 over fellow UFC vet Matt Horwich in the Lets Get It On promotion in Edmonton.
