Woodley vs Saffiedine and Cormier vs Cole on January 7th

Coming off a hugely successful fight card, Strikeforce has announced it’s first card of 2011 in the Challengers Series.  Undefeated Tyron Woodley (7-0) will lay it all on the line against the very dangerous Tarec Saffiedine (10-2).  Woodley is coming off his knock out win over Andre Galvao this past October.  Woodley has yet to see the 3rd round and has only seen the 2nd round once.  Saffiedine is coming off a unanimous decision win over Brock Larson at Shark Fights in September.  While Woodley has yet to have a fight go to a decision, Saffiedine has gone to the judges score cards 5 times and it is a bit surprising that a striker like Saffiedine has only 1 knock out win and 6 submissions.

In the co-main event, 2 time Olympian and XMMA and King of the Cage Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier (7-0) will face IFL vet Devin Cole (18-8-1).  Cormier is coming off his defense of his XMMA title defense in Australia.  Cormier’s pro debut bout against Gary Frazier went to the second round before Cormier stopped Frazier.  The rest, never got out of the first round.  Cole has had mixed results in his career.  Cole started his MMA career with a 7 fight win streak and went 10 and 1 before dropping 4 in a row.  One of those losses was to current Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champ, Rafael Feijao Cavalcante.  Cole’s most recent bout is a unanimous decision loss to Aaron Rosa at Shark Fights in September.

The rest of the televised card looks like this:

185lbs – Yancy Mediros vs UFC Vet John Salter

145lbs – Julia Budd vs Amanda Nunes

170lbs – Nathan Coy vs Nate Moore

Strikeforce Challengers 13 will be on January 7th in Nashville, TN and will air on Showtime.
